St Ives Has Been Voted the Top UK Beach Resort

Forget the sun-kissed beaches of the Mediterranean, for a sandy paradise exists much closer to home.

The beaches of Cornwall have been identified as among the best in Europe - beating anything that Spain, Italy and France have to offer.

Millions of families have given up on the idea of a foreign holiday this year, largely because of the cost of living squeeze on household budgets.

However, it appears it is not necessary to queue for hours in an airport departure lounge before being herded via coaches to a hotel on the Med.

St Ives has been voted the top UK beach resort and has been placed at number six in a league of the best sandy destinations in Europe.

The Cornish resort boasts several beaches and some of the top-ranked hotels and B&Bs, according to travel information website TripAdvisor.

Newquay in Cornwall was in second place in the British list, with Bournemouth third, Weymouth in Dorset fourth and the Welsh resort of Tenby in Pembrokeshire fifth.
