Alice Vandy

My fashion design and artwork is usually inspired by the unreal and fantasy elements, although I am also inspired by different cultures and music.

Education: I studied a National Diploma in Fine Art at Cornwall College before completing my BA hons in Fashion at Plymouth College of Art & Design. My work was regularly chosen to represent the College, being used on front covers of fashion programmes, on the PCAD website and also shown in the shop window of Dingles in Plymouth. At the end of my BA I won a double page spread as a featured designer in Disorder magazine.

My signature style is recognised by oversized shapes and details, warping and enhancing of the body. The fabrics I choose also play a big part in making the garment striking, I love mixing shiny spandex fabrics with rougher materials and always use beautiful faux fur as I am against the use of real fur. There are usually rock n roll and urban influences througout and although the clothes are sometimes bizarre they still manage to look glamorous. I like my work whether its my artwork, design work or photo shoots to stimulate the imagination. I finished my degree last June and since then have been working freelance as a designer and stylist whilst also modeling.

Previously I have been commissioned by Bjorn Thomassen to produce a one-off high fashion dress to be photographed in Egypt and I have just finished my first wedding dress which was a HUGE challenge, a one-off backless Grecian style edged with hand sewn plaits.

My work is becoming recognised now and I have a growing fanbase which is really exciting! I aim to become a major designer based in London. When commissioned by a client, I work closely with them right from the start to create a unique, comfortable, beautifully tailored, designer garment.
