Organisers of Music Truro festival are calling for local musicians across all genres to be involved in the 2011 event programme.

Now in its fourth year, Music Truro is a community music festival taking place between October 17 and 22 to celebrate the wealth of musical talent in and around the city.

Funded by Totally Truro Business Improvement District and co-ordinated by Event Cornwall, the festival will feature daily events at lunchtime and after 5pm to encourage residents and workers to enjoy entertainment at a variety of venues.

BID manager Neil Scott said: “We’re building on the fantastic success of previous Music Truro events, and therefore we are searching for local musicians, both experienced and developing, to get involved.

“We are looking for anything from a ukulele player to a school rock band, a classical pianist to a choir. There is plenty on offer for participating musicians, including prizes, professional performance slots and support from music industry experts.”

To apply for any of the performance opportunities or competitions during Music Truro week, contact Becky Lush at Event Cornwall, call 01872 888089.

Among the events for which organisers require musicians are:

Lunchtime performances: Up to 16 performance slots at four key locations throughout the city. Share your music with the people of Truro to brighten up their lunch break.

Musician in residence: Matching surprising and unusual musical talent with Truro businesses and locations such as Lemon Street Market, Park for Truro park and ride and the Wig and Pen.

Battle of the Baby Bands at the Office: Tuesday 18 October. Truro club the Office and Music Truro are searching for the best budding new talent by finding Cornwall’s top band aged 18 or under. Submit the name of your band, names and ages of band members and a link to an online demo, website or MySpace page for a chance to compete on the night.

People’s Choice Competition: A chance to perform on the Music Truro stage at Lemon Quay on Saturday, October 22 between midday and 3pm. 20 minute performance slots available with a prize for the best act, as voted by the public.
