Mrs Palm's Adult Shop in Truro Gains New Licence
Tags: Adult, Mrs Palm, Sex, TruroMrs Palm's adult shop in Truro has rightfully been granted another licence to stay in business we are happy to announce.
The Truro-based company trading as Mrs Palm Ltd had attracted opposition in many forms from religious sects and its position in the town.
Legal action was taken by Truro resident Armorel Carlyon and The Christian Institute.
In April the High Court allowed a judicial review of Cornwall Council's decision to grant the initial licence.
The Christian Institute claimed that Cornwall Council disregarded relevant material relating to the suitability of the location.
At the time the shop was already stocked and was enjoying a very successful trade.
The owners of the shop immediately applied for a 'waiver' to trade without a licence in the interim which was granted by the council's miscellaneous licensing committee.
At a new hearing on Wednesday, the licence was approved again by councillors. This second licence allows the owner to sell adult DVDs.
Manager Nicky Hewett said it had been a "testing few months".
She said: "No-one that has actually come into the shop has ever found anything offensive in here at all, everything is licensed goods and we are lawfully allowed to sell them."
From everyone at CornwallsCoolest.com Nicky, good luck and see you soon

My partner and I find the shop very classy not at all "tacky" and it is discreetly set out. Impressed! :-)
Since Nicky would find it very difficult to advertise in our local press and, apart from causing her massive amounts of stress, I would say the Christian group has probably done her a huge favour in letting everyone know where her shop is (Little Castle Street) and what it sells (personal products for ADULTS!!) I am disgusted by the thought that the religious group(s) that were objecting to this retail establishment possibly funded their legal battles with money donated to them which could have had a far more practical and beneficial use to the commumity.

Has anyone walked around Truro recently looking at the shops - or absence of them? I was shocked earlier this summer at how wretched and ragged a lot of the city looks now. I'd rather see a black frilly basque in a window and know that people are employed and rents and rates being paid in a legal business than see dustsheets and yet another "for sale" or "to let" sign that's helping nobody. The churches - especially the Catholic church - should worry less about what consenting adults do with their sex lives (given their record on consent and child abuse, they're in no place to look down on anyone) and more about the problems they face outside the bedroom. Those fighting against this would have done better with the money they spent buying a huge load of groceries and putting it in the collection crates in the supermarkets. Good luck to Nikki and her team.
