The late night shopping season gets under way tomorrow night (Weds) in Truro as the stores are stocked with Christmas goodies.

A festive atmosphere will be created with music and street entertainment from St Newlyn East Band, Camborne Youth Band, Jumping Out Duo and Diabloman.

Anyone wanting to get into Truro a little earlier will be able to take advantage of the Made in Cornwall Christmas Show is being held on Lemon Quay.

Artisans, artists and food and drink producers will be showing their wares in the large marquee today from 9am – 6pm.

Neil Scott is the manager of Totally Truro, the city’s Business Improvement District, he said: “Shoppers will have more variety than ever when they come to Truro this year as we’ve seen dozens of new shops open in the city throughout the year.

“Late night shopping in Truro really is an experience the whole family can enjoy, as there is a chance to see reindeer parades, singing and entertainment for the children while picking up those must-have gifts.”

For the fourth year running the famous reindeer parade will be staged, starting and finishing in Victoria Square.

There will be a chance to see the reindeer from 6pm, with the parade beginning at 6.45pm.

It will process along Little Castle Street, River Street, St Nicholas Street, King Street, Princes Street, Green Street, Lemon Quay and Lower Lemon Street before returning to Victoria Square.

The event is put on each year by Mallet’s Home Hardware and this year the cast of the Christmas pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, will follow Santa’s sleigh.

Camborne’s Youth Band will lead the procession, along with members of the Carnon Downs Drama group.

On December 1 the Christmas Primestock Show will be held on Lemon Quay starting at 9am. The event is a favourite with our rural communities and truly sees’ the country coming into town’, with judging taking place at 2.30pm and a charity auction held in the evening at 8pm.

Truro Cathedral will throw open its doors from 7pm – 9pm every Wednesday evening from December 1 – 22. There will be activities for children, mince pies, tea and coffee with proceeds going to St Petroc’s Society.

On High Cross on December 1 at 6.30pm the Light Up a Life service will be held as a chance to remember loved ones.

Each year the BID publishes a ‘Christmas Truro shopping and events' guide, giving details of the highlights of Christmas and New Year in the city.

The 46-page booklet can be picked up at venues across the city and downloaded from www.enjoytruro.co.uk .

Neil said: “The Christmas guide will help any visitor to Truro make the most of the late night shopping, activities and events throughout the festive season.”
