The South West's Best Young Talent at Eden

Winners of Eden’s junior talent contest Bright Young Things will be showcasing their work at the project on Saturday, January 28.

Bright Young Things is returning for its fourth year and will feature music, dance, film, photography, art and writing from the South West’s top young artists.

The competition was open to the region’s 13 to 19-year-olds and entrants were asked to theme their work around the topic of gold in honour of this year’s Olympic Games in London.

Activities will start at midday with a showcase of dance from groups including Motion from Bodmin Community College and the Launceston Dance Academy.

Film, photography, art and writing entries will be showcased between midday and 2pm on the first floor of the Core.

Live music will be on in the Mediterranean Biome from 2pm, starting with a selection of the South West’s finest young singer-songwriters.

Penzance’s Tom Elliott and Truro’s Eva Barnsley kick off proceedings at 2pm and 2.30pm respectively.

Driving acoustic duo Olle Jinks and Matt Finch from Truro take to the stage at 3pm with folk pop-rockers The Klicks, also hailing from the county’s capital, following at 3.30pm.

Lostwithiel’s powerful multi-instrumentalist Abee Hague will be playing at 4pm, with Joanna Joyce, a smoky-voiced singer-songwriter from Weston-Super-Mare, performing at 4.30pm.

The evening will end with a couple of heavier acts, with the grungey psychedelica of Millbrook’s State of Mind (who played last year’s Bright Young Things under the name Propaganda) gracing the stage at 5pmand Tavistock rockers Ten Zero One rounding the show off at 5.30pm.

Entry to Bright Young Things is included in standard Edenadmission.

Cornwall and Devon residents can see the event with the £5 Locals’ Annual Passor the new two-year offer at the current price of £10. They just need to bring proof of primary residence (for example a utility bill) together with some photo ID to benefit from the discounts.

Bright Young Things is being staged by Edenin collaboration with Arts Award, which aims to support young people who want to deepen their engagement with the arts, build creative and leadership skills, and to achieve a national qualification.
