The Cornwall BMX Racing Club ProfileTags: BMX
Cornwall BMX Racing Club was formed 30 years ago during the heyday of BMX racing of the ‘80s. It was known then as Truro BMX Club and based at Kelsters Farm, Hugus but in 2008 work started on building a new track at Blackwater adjacent to the ATV Centre in North Hill.
Now fully established at this venue the Club continues to run BMX riding, training and racing there under the auspices of British Cycling Go-Ride and a committee of dedicated volunteers. As the track is on private property it is only open at various times during the year and details can be found on the Club’s website at www.cornwallbmx.co.uk.
Light refreshments are available and BMX bikes of all sizes can be hired for those with nothing suitable for riding the banked turns and jumps that the 330 metre track includes. Riders from 4 to over 60 are regularly found enjoying the facility which offers fitness and fun in beautiful countryside with views looking out towards St. Ives.
New members are welcomed and a first visit is free to ride the track after which a session charge of £3 is made to non-members and £2 to members with sessions usually lasting three hours. With BMX racing being showcased in the last Olympics and very much in focus at the 2012 London Olympics there will be an upsurge of interest in the sport which is both challenging and exciting.
To be part of this renaissance why not pay the Club a visit and see if this is something that would appeal to you and your family.
