West Country Fruit Sales LTD have announced that the launch of cornishfoodmarket.co.uk, their new web-based home delivery service, will take place at the Cornwall Food & Drink Festival 2010 in Truro on 24th, 25th and 26th of September.

The new business aims to offer consumers a viable local alternative to the home delivery services operated by the ‘big four’ supermarkets throughout Cornwall and West Devon. A range of over 3,000 products will enable customers to purchase everything they need to complete both weekly and ‘top-up’ shopping but most of the fresh produce, including all of the meat, fish and bread, and much of the fruit, vegetables and dairy produce will come from a huge network of suppliers across Cornwall and West Devon.

Managing Director Sean Williams is determined to make the new service work, saying: “As far as we know this type of service, operated by an independent local business, is a first for the UK. Through our established wholesale business we have the resources and infrastructure as well as the supplier relationships that give us a unique opportunity to offer consumers in Cornwall and West Devon a real alternative to buying from the big supermarkets.

We can offer competitive prices to our customers, a fair price to our local suppliers and massively reduce the amount of food miles expended each week compared with supermarket shopping. The website has all the functionality that customers would expect of a high quality grocery shopping site, ultra secure one click payment, a delivery slot booking system, favourites' lists, repeat orders, and recipe ideas from top Cornish chefs and much more. The most important thing, however, is that it makes it easy for customers to buy the best local produce and know that they are getting great value for money, supporting the local economy and reducing their impact on the environment.”

“Cornwall and Devon already have a number of high quality specialist farm shops and independent food retailers, many of which our company has worked closely with to promote the sale of local produce. It is clear that these shops, when combined with the ‘online’ presence of cornishfoodmarket.co.uk, will provide food shoppers across the region with every opportunity to buy the freshest locally produced food available, whether they currently shop online for their groceries or prefer to view, touch and select their own product by visiting the shops in person.

However people choose to shop, we hope that through our investment in e-commerce technology cornishfoodmarket.co.uk will be able to encourage and enable many more people to ‘buy fresh, buy local’.”

“One final thing,” adds Sean: “With a low minimum order value of £12.50 we offer free delivery within our delivery area – when the supermarkets are charging anything from £3.00 to £6.50 for delivery our free delivery makes a real difference and enables everybody to access the service.”

The new cornishfoodmarket.co.uk service will roll out across Cornwall and West Devon from the end of September but you can find out more and register your interest now by visiting www.cornishfoodmarket.co.uk
