Organisers of the Perranporth Surf Challenge Triathlon are counting on a successful year after receiving support from a Cornish firm of chartered accountants and business advisers.

Truro-based Winter Rule has signed up to sponsor the event, which celebrates its 23rd birthday, on Sunday, September 12.

The event, which features a 1000m swim, 35k cycle and a 7.5k run, has secured a reputation across the UK and has recently being included in a list of the ‘The UK’s Toughest Triathlons’ in 220 Triathlon magazine.

Scott Bentley, partner at Winter Rule, said: “We’re really pleased to have singed up to sponsor the Perranporth Surf Challenge Triathlon.

“I have done and really enjoyed the triathlon on two occasions and I am pleased that my firm has the opportunity to assist and encourage a healthy lifestyle.”

Triathlon is one of the UK’s fastest growing sports and Perranporth is high on the list of ‘must do’ races due to its location and challenge.

The sea swim has gained headlines with competitors having to negotiate sea swells of up to eight feet, white-topped breakers and on shore winds.

This is then followed by a two-lap bike ride towards St Agnes and back, and a strength-sapping beach run.

A recent addition to the main event is the Youth Challenge Aquathon held on Saturday, September 11.

It aims to encourage children to get a taste of the triathlon with a swim/wade followed by a beach run.

There are still a few spaces left for both events and for more details or an entry form please visit www.perranporthslsc.org.uk and navigate to the events listed under the “Sport” section.

Or if you would like to volunteer to assist with the marshalling of competitors or are qualified to provide water cover at either of these events please contact Karen Longstaff on 01872 571560 or by email at admin@perranporthslsc.org.uk
