Julie Kitchen - Cornwall's World Champion Kickboxer
Tags: Julie Kitchen, TouchGlovesJulie Barrett was born and bred in Cornwall. Her family have always resided in St. Warren Street, Penzance with her Mum Lynn, Father Ivor and sisters Kelly and Claire.
After the birth of Julie’s twin girls Amber and Allaya in 1999, Julie decided to attend Thaiboxing lessons which were being taught locally by her boyfriend/now husband Nathan Kitchen. Nathan qualified to teach Kickboxing in 1995, but pursued further to qualify as a Muaythai instructor in 2000, the 5 year teaching course was extended when Nathan began to travel to respected gyms throughout the world including Thailand to excel in his trade.
In 2002 Touchgloves was formed offering high standard fight training to accompany technical training classes.
In the years since Julie Kitchen has clocked up nearly 50 fights, with 8 only losses (5 coming in her first 10 competitions). She is still residing locally, but travels the world competing against the best of the best from every country. She has flown the Cornish flag across the globe and beaten experienced opponents from America, Australia, New Zealand, Holland, Italy, Finland, Portugal, Latvia and Jamaica. In addition one of the highlights of Julie's career was fighting in front of 20,000 spectators in Thailand, the birthplace of her chosen sport in front of the King at his birthday show. Julie launched herself into the female Muaythai record books this year by claiming her 11th World Championship belt to add to her amazing trophy stash including also 2 x European Titles, 7 x British and 1 x English.11 x World Champion
Julie is a born winner and trains 3 times a day in a vigorous training regime under the Touchgloves banner. Touchgloves, who since their first champion Zac Orr, alongside Julie have trained 15 Champions in total under 5 different fighting disciplines. Those being Boxing, Kickboxing, Oriental (K1 Style), Thaiboxing and Full Muaythai Rules which is described as the hardest ring sport on earth.The Touchgloves gym have never stopped in consistency of progress.
The club now boasts a luxurious training facility spanning 2 fully equipped rooms situated in the Branwells Mill Complex and offer a full timetable to the locals of the town with women’s only, sparring, advanced, beginners alongside the ever popular "Bag Blast" workout and the most fantastic childrens classes with qualified CRB checked & first aid certificated instructors in all lessons.
