THE CITY of Truro will soon be awash with colour and creativity with flagship event BIG Art. The annual festival is delivered by Totally Truro with BIG Art supported by Truro Arts Company.

With a view to inspire creativity in the community and create a buzz in Cornwall’s capital, 16 artists will take to various public locations on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd April. The artists, both established and emerging, will create their own large-scale individual masterpiece around the theme ‘My view of Truro’ in just one day. By sunset on Tuesday, paintbrushes will be down, and from Wednesday 4th April for 6 days, the finished works will be available for viewing at various locations around the city of three spires. Locations include Pydar Artist Studios, The Guild of Ten, Experience Wine, Hall for Cornwall, Mallets Home Hardware, Uneeka, Lemon Street Market, Truro Arts Company, Traquair, The Lane Gallery, City Music, Newells Travel and The Tourist Information Centre.

The paintings will be available for viewing collectively from Tuesday 10th April when they move to their temporary home in the heart of Truro, at Lemon Street’s Lander Gallery. The16-piece exhibition provides the only opportunity to see the works together in one place before they go under the hammer to find new homes at the BIG Art auction, taking place on Thursday 12th April at 6pm, supported by Experience Wine. The auction, which last year attracted national attention from art collectors, provides a rare opportunity to pick up a potential bargain and take home a unique piece of work.

Truro Arts Company returns to support the event this year, and will be supplying canvases and equipment. Co-owner Lucy Hambly says: “We are really excited and proud to be part of the BIG Art event again this year. It’s so rare to get the opportunity to see the processes artists go through to produce their work, and we hope this inspires people to get creative themselves. “Events like this are fantastic for the Truro community and with everything else we have planned for the Art in the City Festival, it should be an arty, fun-filled fortnight!”
