The Amazing Leddra Chapman Announces Mini Cornish Tour
Tags: Gylly Beach Cafe, Leddra Chapman, SW1 Productions, Taphouse, Wig & Pen, Zero LoungeLeddra Chapman recently finished her second full tour of the UK, which was quickly followed by sold out shows in London, York, Edinburgh, Inverness, Aberdeen and a homecoming show at the High Barn in the Essex countryside. With a rapidly filling summer schedule of shows in both the UK and across Europe (as part of her International Ambassadorship for Quiksilver Women’s clothing), Leddra will be heading to Cornwall next month for a handful of dates as part of her busy summer schedule.
Leddra has just released the song to kick off British summertime, the appropriately entitled Summer Song is taken from Leddra’s debut album Telling Tales, which was released to critical acclaim in late 2009. This new chapter in the young Brit’s blossoming career comes after years of hard work on Leddra’s part. Writing her first song aged 12 and excited that she could capture thought-provoking emotion in her lyrics and melodies, Leddra continued to write songs and soon started playing gigs (wherever age-restrictions permitted). Never lacking drive and confidence, Leddra then divided her time between completing her studies, writing songs, teaching herself piano and also learned to produce demos of her songs in the small home-studio her dad had put together in the back of their garage. This dedication to her studies has prevailed and she currently juggles her career as a singer songwriter with a music degree at London College of Music.
Telling Tales is an utterly brilliant debut - Daily Mail Weekend Magazine
Leddra’s debut single Story already created great waves at the end of 2009, being play-listed for 7 consecutive weeks on BBC Radio 2 after it was championed by Sir Terry Wogan. Leddra also performed her beautifully crafted songs live on Radio 2 in session with Janice Long and completed numerous live radio performances regionally during her UK tour. Meanwhile, television audiences across the UK were introduced to Leddra when she performed Story live on ITV's This Morning earlier this year.
Summer Song is sun soaked evocative British song-writing at its best with toy piano’s, tales of hide and seek, cider and camp fires and the sound of children playing in the local park all wrapped up in Leddra’s effortlessly laid back vocal style. The track has been play listed on BBC Radio 2 for 4 consecutive weeks on the B-List and received numerous spot plays. Summer Song has also become a firm favourite at live shows with the use of a hand painted toy piano whipping many a muso into a state of frenzy. Leddra’s live delivery brilliantly showcases her acute knack of capturing her dreams, observations and memories and turning them into smart, insightful lyrics. Possessing touches of Joni Mitchell and Regina Spektor, Leddra’s narrative style could also be likened to a folk-pop Lily Allen.
Leddra recorded Telling Tales with musician and top international producer Peter-John Vettese (Sia, Gary Go) at his Battersea Studio in the spring of 2009 and Summer Song was born out of breaks from those sessions when Leddra would stroll around the local parks and estates listening to the world go by. The album is a collection of ten folk-pop songs on which Leddra's pure voice and beautiful instrumentation work together to paint vivid pictures.
